What I have to say is very spiritual (but also practical). It takes awhile to become acquainted with the truth about men and women and the truth about what love really is. But for many, it is a welcome breath of fresh air. And it will help you to cope, or even possibly save your marriage. While you are learning, here are a couple of simple things you can do to get started.
.
1. Treat each other with courtesy. Ann Landers also said that we should treat those in our family with the same courtesy we would extend to others. Watch out for the flippant, mocking style that is everywhere on television and in the movies. Please dress modestly and properly. Carry yourself with dignity. No bad language, no catty remarks. Be kind.

2. As a mom, dad, grandma or grandpa, you must avoid even the appearance of impropriety. You have no business in bars or casinos. Please don't play the lottery or smoke marijuana.
.
3. Best to have an attitude that no one owes you anything. Don't expect people to meet your needs. Don't expect your mate to show gratitude or cater to you. Do your duty. Don't expect gratitude. Work at decent work and be grateful for a paycheck. Don't expect some sort of big ego rewards from your work. Let it be simply "An honest day's pay for an honest day's work." Expect nothing more. As a parent and spouse, do your duty. Live in dignity.
.
4. Don't try to change the other person.

5. Watch out for resentment. Understand this: resentment is one of the most insidious destructive things in the world. It has destroyed more marriages than anything else. Resentment can poison and ruin everything. Resentment can ruin a game, it can ruin your enjoyment of work. It can destroy your relationship with your mate or children. It is destructive. It can even destroy your health.
.
Resentment is based in selfishness and unforgiveness. If there was one piece of advice I could give you it would be: Be more forgiving. Let go of resentment.
.
Many people just won't give up their resentment, even if they sense that it is self destructive.
.
I'm sure you know people who just won't give up their drinks, their drugs, or their fast food. I'm sorry to say that many people just won't give up their resentment. Too much has happened they say.
.
You see, resentment and judgment have become a way of life for them. So they wallow in judgment, bitterness and feeling sorry for themselves.

But there are some people who recognize that they are resentful, and really and truly want to be more forgiving. But they are stuck. These people I can help. My books, lectures and meditation help awaken them to insight and understanding. I have been helping people overcome resentment and bitterness for many years.
